History
The Vine is an independent Christian Church established on the principles found in the New Testament. It was started in 1979 as Woodstock Christian Church by a handful of Christians from the Crystal Lake Christian Church. Initially, the church met in individual homes for Sunday School and then, in September 1980, a worship service was added. Initial financial support was provided by the Crystal Lake Christian Church and the Chicago District Evangelistic Association (www.cdea.org).
As Woodstock Christian Church grew, it rented space in the building now known as the Todd Apartments on Seminary Avenue. Continued growth enabled the church to purchase the former Knights of Columbus building at 1132 N. Madison Street in 1986 where they remained until the launch of The Vine. This building now serves as The Vine Ministry Center.
Michael Wiley was called from Lawrenceville, Illinois in May 2001 to serve as Senior Pastor at Woodstock Christian Church. He now serves in that same capacity for The Vine.
In the fall of 2005, a new vision to reach the lost in McHenry County was received by Woodstock Christian Church which held its last worship service on March 26, 2006.
The Vine, a new church with a new vision and a new passion, was launched on April 2, 2006.
